Corporate Board Chairman
Jerry Tipton
President
Jerry Tipton assumed the position of President and Chief Professional Officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta on October 1, 1994. Prior to his promotion, he had been with the organization for 14 years serving as Executive Vice President.
Jerry has had an “unintended” life long career with the Boys & Girls Club movement. His involvement began as a part time staff member while in college. Jerry’s plan was to teach classical history in a university setting. In 1968, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Although he had a teaching contract for the fall, he accepted “temporary” full time responsibilities at the Kingsport, Tennessee Boys & Girls Club. Thirty-five years later, he believes fate correctly guided him.
Jerry’s calling continues to focus him on Boys & Girls Clubs as a persuasive advocate for disadvantaged youth. He serves Boys & Girls Clubs of America as a National Training Associate, Management Consultant, and was a member of the first training team to work internationally teaching youth development skills to military personnel as more military youth centers became Boys & Girls Clubs. Jerry received the national Professional Excellence Award in 1993. He is a member of the National Professional Advisory Council, a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Boys & Girls Club professionals, and a graduate of the Tom Garth Leadership Program at Duke University. He was named Executive of the Year – Southeast in 1996, and the National Executive of the Year in 1997. In October 2002, he received the Distinguished Service Award from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
