Those who know Nia describe her as passionate, helpful, and independent. All qualities in which Nia takes great pride in and hopes to pass down to other youth. The once shy and self-conscious girl that walked into the Malon D. Mimms Club four years ago, has now blossomed into a strong, resilient leader that puts her all into everything she does.
Nia credits her Club staff for being the spark that helped her break out of her shell when she first started attending her Club. Their inviting smiles and warm spirit made her feel at home. Throughout her four years of membership, Nia has participated in multiple leadership programs. She has gotten a head start in college preparation and securing her future through the Career Bound program, where she was the youngest member to join in the sixth grade. Career Bound gives her a lot of optimism about life after high school, teaching her all about financial aid, college tours, SAT and ACT prep, job shadowing and so much more. Aside from preparing her for the next step in her education, Nia credits Career Bound for helping her develop her own way of thinking and making her more cognizant of her decisions.
In her Club and community, Nia is a role model to many kids and teens, a role she takes very seriously. As a junior staff leader during the summer, she got the opportunity to lead Club programs for kids at her Club. She also played an integral role in coordinating a girls’ empowerment group at her Club called ‘Lead Like a Girl’.
Nia hopes to use her Youth of the Year platform to be an example of excellence and a pioneer in making all kids feel included and confident in who they are.
Upon graduation in 2021, Nia plans to attend Kennesaw State University to study the arts.
