CONYERS — After an arduous process, Jymion Moore has been announced as the A.R. “Gus” Barksdale Boys and Girls Club’s 2018 Youth of the Year.

“It’s not an easy process being nominated as Youth of the Year,” said Terry Walker-Moore, director of Barksdale BGC. “After being selected as Youth of the Month, competing against other youths at their designated clubs and receiving recommendation letters from either a teacher, pastor or other mentor, each nominee is expected to give a speech at the regional conference about what the Boys and Girls Club means to them.”

“I have been coming to Barksdale since I was in the second grade,” said Moore. “I like to be involved in different things; I am on the Heritage High School swim team, tennis team and debate team and any free time I spend here doing extracurriculars and other activities.”Moore has participated in the BGC cooking club, art club, money matters club, and the college bound program where he was given the opportunity to tour several colleges including Albany State University, West Georgia University and Valdosta State University.

Already having a plan in motion, Moore hopes to attend Albany State after high school to receive a bachelor’s in English and move to Howard University to study law.
