Justin Shares His Journey Toward A Great Future

Justin Shares His Journey Toward A Great Future
May 11, 2020 BGCMA

My name is Justin Wallace. I’m a senior at Newnan High School. I’ve already been accepted into Tennessee State University but I’m waiting to hear back from Savannah State University. I plan to study forensic science. I’ve been a member of the Newnan/Coweta Boys & Girls Club for about 7 years, and I can truly say that my Club has helped me in many ways on my path to college.

To be honest, before I became a member of the Newnan/Coweta Boys and Girls Club, I was uncertain about college and really didn’t know what it was like at all. But the first day I walked through those blue doors, I was exposed to many different programs like CareerBound that showed me all of the possibilities of what I could do in life.

In CareerBound, I went on college tours and learned a lot of lessons that prepared me for my next chapter in life.

There were different sessions on studying for the SAT and how to write a good resume. We were also given opportunities to do job shadowing at major companies and practiced interviewing for internships. One of my favorite CareerBound takeaways was save as much money as you can and spend only when necessary.

These are lessons that I’ll never forget. There are so many people who helped me get to where I am today, but there are two people at my Club who made the biggest impact on my life.

To my CareerBound counselor and mentor Mr. Tyler Reid – I’ll never forget all of the long talks we had about making good choices and staying on a positive track. And Ms. Lauren – the person who hired me for summer jobs and named me Club Youth of the Year twice in a row – thank you for always seeing the potential in me, even when I didn’t see it in myself.

I can’t wait to see where the future takes me. Because of my Club, community, and supporters like you, I now know that the sky is the limit to what I can be.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta is proud to announce that nearly 100% of our CareerBound seniors graduate and go on to post-secondary learning or employment opportunities. On Thursday, May 28, 7pm-7:30pm, we invite you to our 2020 BGCMA Virtual Senior Breakthrough to celebrate Justin and other Club seniors gearing up to achieve the Great Futures they’ve worked so hard to accomplish.
