Director Q & A
Q & A with the Executive Director – Tyanna Jackson
I wanted to be part of Boys & Girls Club to be part of the change. Many times we are able to assess what needs to be done, but do little to get those things done. I wanted to be able to say I made a difference; that I saw potential in the kids of tomorrow and took initiative to create a space of safety and growth for our children.
When I was a child, my biggest influence was my oldest sister – Akia. She made sure I did not duplicate her mistakes and that I only adopted the good decisions she made.
Take your time. Don’t grow up too fast. Once you hit 18, you will have the rest of your life to be an adult so enjoy your youth. Create real friendships. Create relationships with your elders. ASK QUESTIONS. Your dreams are never too big no matter what anyone else may think.
Our partnerships with the Cobb County school system, aquatic center, and recreational center allow us to interact with our community through special projects and community events – building rapport in everything we do.
The Michael A. Grant Boys & Girls Club is a special place because for a lot of our youth, they are here more than they are at their own home. As youth development professionals, we have a HUGE impact on how our children interact within the real world. Because of our influence, we can either set them up for success or failure. We make our club a special place by providing our kids an outlet to relieve stress, vent about their home life, and most importantly a place that will influence their future experiences in a positive light.
