A Day in the Life of a Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta Member
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta's educational programs are designed to support school curriculum, enrich members' natural curiosity and broaden their knowledge base. For the past year; eight-year-old Angela Montiel has been a faithful member of the Lawrenceville Boys & Girls Club, arriving at the Club after school to participate in a variety of programs. Every day, Angela rushes to the learning center as soon as she steps through the Club doors. The learning center is one of her favorite areas in the Club, although she doesn't know she is supposed to be learning....
Power in Learning
When I go to my Club, the first thing I have to do is my homework. I go to the learning center an do all the worksheets my teacher gives me. Sometimes I get stuck on a question and I need help. When that happens, Ms. Edna comes over to help me. Some of my friends get help every day from tutors. If we finish all our homework each week, we get a pizza party at the end of the month.
One of the best things we did in the learning center was science odyssey. Science odyssey taught me all about how my body works, like how my heart pumps or how my brain remembers things. I also like when we do math discovery. During math discovery I get to play all types of games. I am one of the fastest kids with flash cards.
There is always something fun to do in the learning center, that is why I love going there.
The art room is another fun place to go. This year, I helped out a lot when it was time for Kiwanis Kids Cultural Challenge. My Club studied the country Eritrea and I helped my friends put together the project board. I also learned about other countries in the art room. A little while ago I even made a map out of beans! It looked really neat.
When I get done in the learning center and art room, I always go to the computer lab. I can play team trivia there and I even learned how to use a mouse. Some of my friends write stories on the computer and Mr. Kyle puts them in a little book called "Lit Mag." Maybe next year I will write something for "Lit Mag" too!
