Success Story
Carla is College Bound
Before high school, I had no concept of college and what I would do after graduation. I guess you could say I wasn’t focused, and I had no motivation.
When I entered the Club, those feelings changed. I began meeting people who took an interest in my future - people like Ms. LaFonda Williams, College Bound’s Director.
It is so hard to name only a few things that Boys & Girls Clubs’ College Bound program has done for me because it has taught me so much. I learned how to be resourceful and how to set goals for myself. I learned the importance of making good grades, and my attitude has definitely changed since joining the College Bound program. I now know I am capable of graduating college and have the motivation and tools to do so successfully. College Bound and Boys & Girls Clubs has afforded me so many opportunities that without, I don’t know where I would be.
When I graduate, I intend to attend Spelman and obtain a degree in Chemistry, and one day, pursue a career in medical technology.
I see myself differently now. I see success and intelligence in myself. I see promise, and I have become empowered and positive about my future.
Ms. Williams has always stressed the importance of reaching my full potential. I’ve always known the staff at Boys & Girls Club was rooting for me, and I know they will always be there for me. It is nice to know someone has my best interest at heart.
