PricewaterhouseCoopers Spruce Up 13 Boys & Girls Clubs
Local employees spend time with kids and complete projects to enhance the ClubsJuly 11, 2008

July 11, 2008 – Nearly 600 partners and staff from the Atlanta office of PricewaterhouseCoopers ("PwC") volunteered more than 4,500 hours today to support children in Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Atlanta. (photos) For the third consecutive year, PwC is conducting a national community service effort throughout 75 offices, involving 30,000 partners and staff and millions of dollars in donated firm time. Working locally in conjunction with The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, this year's program is focused on developing the next generation of leaders by assisting schools and youth organizations.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta provide developmental programs that empower metro Atlanta youth — especially those from disadvantaged circumstances — to become productive adults, touching over 17,000 youth in the last year. To ensure that these at-risk children and teens have a safe place to go and grow, hundreds of PwC volunteers will landscape the grounds of Boys & Girls Clubs around the region; construct equipment such as picnic tables, sports areas, flower boxes and book shelves; paint murals and benches; and clean and re-organize sports and arts rooms. In addition, PwC volunteers will host field day activities for the youth, including games and other contests, to teach sportsmanship and other crucial life skills.
"PwC believes that by supporting the members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, we positively impact the community in which we work and live," says Gary Price, Greater Atlanta Market Managing Partner. "We also want to set a positive example that others can follow. When we all get involved in supporting the development of children, everyone prospers."
The Boys & Girls Clubs are also a partner of the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, which will assist PwC and the clubs by leveraging its connections with charitable resources to procure tools and other supplies. PwC also secured the generous support of The Home Depot, which contributed $7,000 toward the cost of materials for the program as well as a number of people to provide guidance and technical expertise on the day's building projects.
Also contributing to the effort were The Big Green Egg, which donated grills to be used for preparing lunch for project participants, and Two Men and a Truck Moving Company, which delivered the grills to the clubs.
During the past two years of the community program, PwC contributed more than 100,000 volunteer hours to nearly 400 community service projects nationwide, worth an estimated $10-15 million in donated firm time. In 2007, the firm's efforts helped an estimated 38,000 children.
The local event is part of a national PwC program called 1*/30,000, which celebrates the impact that one person can have on a child and acknowledges that 30,000 people working together as a team can motivate, educate and develop the next generation of leaders. All PwC offices throughout the U.S. participate in the program in some way.
