Boys & Girls Clubs Open for Summer
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta’s Summer programming provides local youth a safe, positive and promising environmentJune 3, 2008
ATLANTA (June 3, 2008) – Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) began summer programs in June within its 24 Club locations. In addition, BGCMA added extension sites in Clayton County, Paulding and Gwinnett County locations to accommodate more summer membership.
Clubs provide diverse activities that meet the interests of all youth. Core programs engage young people in activities with adults, peers and family members that enable them to develop self-esteem and to reach their full potential. The summer activities at the Clubs are customized given the needs of the young people attending each of the 24 metro Atlanta area Clubs.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta’s Summer Program activities are focused around these six key areas:
1. Character and Leadership Development activities empower youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image and good character and respect their own and other’s cultural identities.
2. Education and Career Development activities enable young people to become proficient in basic education disciplines, set goals, explore career, prepare for employment and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.
3. Arts & Cultural Enrichment activities enable young people to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation for the visual arts and creative writing.
4. Sports, Fitness and Recreation activities develop fitness, positive use of leisure time skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills.
5. Health and Life Skills activities develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
6. Outdoor Education activities at our organization owned Camp Kiwanis focus on awareness, appreciation, and knowledge of and the wise management of our natural resources. Camp Kiwanis retreat is scheduled for July 20-26. Through small groups and personal experiences, with guidance of caring staff, our Club members will experience activities within an “experiential atmosphere” that focuses the results of the activities on personal growth and self-concept enhancement.
