Brief History
In 2000, John & Joyce Stevens began working with their friends Mickey and Nina Lankford to address the needs of at risk children in Walton County. The John P. & Joyce C. Stevens Club received its first $5,000 donation from Wal-Mart, which was presented by Frank Eagle. Through efforts of a group of Walton County citizens led by John and Joyce Stevens, Mickey and Nina Lankford and 27 community leaders gathered to participate in meetings regarding building a Boys & Girls Club in Walton County. The first Board of Directors meeting formed July 9th, 2001 and on December 20, 2001, Boys & Girls Club of Walton County was officially accepted into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as Unit of Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens. Later, in January 2002, the club became a unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.Staff
