Brief History

In 2000, John & Joyce Stevens began working with their friends Mickey and Nina Lankford to address the needs of "at risk" children in Walton County.  Through efforts of a group of Walton County citizens, led by John and Joyce Stevens and Mickey and Nina Lankford, 27 community leaders gathered to participate in meetings regarding building a Boys & Girls Club in walton County.  The first Board of Directors meeting formed July 9, 2001 and on December 20, 2001, Boys & Girls Club of Walton County was officially accepted into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as Unit of Boys & Girls Clubs of Athens.  Later, in January 2002, the Club became a unit of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.  In January 2005, the Social Circle Extension Site opended its doors to serve the youth of Social Circle and became an official Club in 2007.

Our children's safety at the Clubs is our number one priority; therefore we require a background check on volunteers who work directly with our children. The completed application, along with a $6 money order for processing, should be mailed to:
