Camp Kiwanis

Camp Kiwanis is a year-round residence camp that provides a positive, challenging outdoor experience to the youth served by Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.

Located on 160 acres in Madison County, Georgia, Camp Kiwanis serves as the Environmental Education Center for over 17,000 members that attend our 24 clubs. This unique site, a gift from Georgia Pacific, is located on the scenic and historic Broad River and Bartram Trail.

The Camp’s Program and Facility theme is centered on William Bartram’s travels along the Broad River in 1773 just after the Cherokee Nation sold the property to the British Government. All camper, staff and quest facilities are log cabins similar to pioneer and Cherokee cabins. All programs feature Cherokee Culture, Georgia's Colonial History, and Bartram’s zeal for nature and adventure.

The unique natural and historic features of the camp include: Bluestone Creek; A mineral spring; Devil's Pulpit (bluffs); the ruins of Wildcat Bridge & Road; a horseshoe bend in the river which provide scenic vistas of the river; the river shoals at Flat Rock; large variety of plants, trees and wildlife.

Camp Kiwanis was founded and is supported by the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta. Additional support comes from the United Way of Atlanta and the Rotary Club of Atlanta.

Camp Kiwanis’ activities focus on awareness, appreciation, and knowledge of and the wise management of our natural resources. Through small groups and personal experiences and with guidance of caring staff, our Club members will experience activities within an “experiential atmosphere” that focuses the results of the activities on personal growth and self-concept enhancement. Knowledge, skills and attitudes gained from the “Camp Kiwanis Experience” will be presented as personal growth experiences that can be applied to our members’ daily lives and the betterment of the country.

Summer Program

Each year, more than 600 young people attend Camp Kiwanis during a five-day summer session. By living and working in small groups, teams of campers rely on themselves and each other to master new skills and complete a journey of self-discovery.

Camp is the first exposure that many Boys & Girls Club members have to a wilderness setting. For some, it is the first time away from their own neighborhoods. New experiences like kayaking, outdoor living, archery, swimming, fishing and orienteering become valuable life lessons, sparking new opportunities for personal growth.
