In Her Own Words: My Boys & Girls Club

Alicia

An 11-year old girl from BGCMA's Franklin Road Boys & Girls Club puts her feelings about her Club into her own words. A poem she wrote shows the impact the Club has on one child in more ways than one. The following is an excerpt from the 2010 Marel Brown Creative Writing program - part of BGCMA's arts & cultural enrichment education.

My Boys & Girls Club
A positive place to be
No matter how old you are
You will always be free
Torch Club is our leadership club
You can depend on us
Whather you want to or not
We are all about education
Our creed is our constitution
You can eat your snack
That your mom or dad packed
We do Oratorical Contest
So we can speak out loud about our dreams
The staff is always here
So the kids have no fear
We complete our homework in Power Hour
And we're taught that "knowledge is power"
You meet new friends and see old ones
No matter what we always have fun
While we smile and joke we are serious at times
I love my Club!!!!!
