Oskar Credits Boys & Girls Clubs for Making a Difference
Oskar Kigelman has attended Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club for nine years and was a finalist for 2008 Youth of the Year. A student at St. Pius X, Oskar looks forward to attending college and becoming an engineer.
He follows a strong moral code with the foundation of responsibility, respect, and determination. Although the youngest child in his family, he shows great maturity and leadership in all aspects of his life. He is active in Keystone Club, Chess Club, Spanish Club and basketball. He volunteers in his Club and in his community every chance he gets.
Oskar’s family moved to the United States when he was young. His parents had to start over in a brand new country, learning a new language, a new culture and overcome language barriers. They had to work hard to support their family and establish themselves in their community. Oskar played a key role in his family even as a child, helping them transition into American society.
Oskar believes in hard work and credits his family and Club for everything he’s learned. “Outside my family, the Boys & Girls Club has definitely impacted me more than anything else in my life…when I have children, I hope I will be able to send them to the Brookhaven Boys & Girls Club to receive the same life structuring aid I received.”
Youth of the Year is a year-round program focused on the development of Boys & Girls Club members as community leaders. Learn more about Youth of the Year.Success Breeds Success!
