Success Story

From Shy to Successful

Lizbeth

Lizbeth was the shy and quiet new member of the Newnan/Coweta Boys & Girls Club. She may be quiet, but she is very talented and analytical. When she first started coming to the Club, she did not know many of the kids, but she found all the members were different. And, she liked making new friends and learning about their different cultures and origins.

“The staff members were so respectful to me and so nice to me, and the kids were amazing,” she said. “Ever since I walked into the Club, I felt like the Boys & Girls Club was my second home, and I know it always will be.”

Lizbeth never thought College would be a possibility in her future – until she came to the Club. “Being in the Club has helped me overcome some of my education barriers. I would like to study Business Administration and Management, or Business and Personal/Finance Services Marketing.”

Now, she can often be found in the computer lab browsing through available scholarships while her peers are in the games room or gym.

“The Club has helped me improve my grades and taught me the importance of education.”

She takes leadership in Club projects and commits to her responsibilities whole-heartedly. She values her family and friends, as well as her education and her character.

“The Club has impacted my life in many ways. I used to hang around with the wrong people; I didn’t listen to my parents and didn’t care about my life. But now I know how the value of family. Now I see life in a different and positive perspective.”

“Lizbeth has shown me what a great impact our organization has on youth like her by providing them hope and opening a big and bright new window of opportunity,” said Mariel Leyton, Latino Outreach Coordinator at the Club. “She’s surpassed some challenges in her adolescence, but she can now stand proud knowing the she is on the right path to success.”
