Success Story

How College Bound helped Amanda’s Education

Amanda

I thought high school was going to be easy and I wouldn’t have any problems; but when I got there, I definitely found some challenges. It was hard for me to transition to 9th grade.

Then, I joined the College Bound program at my Boys & Girls Club. My grades improved when I became involved, and for the past two years, I have made the honor roll!

My attitude has changed about school and graduating. I have realized I can make high school fun or I can make it the worst thing in the world. What makes the difference is my attitude.

I learned so many things in the program, like how to manage my time wisely, how to choose a college and how to apply for financial aid — things I would not have learned anywhere else.

I had financial aid workshops, GHSGT help and SAT prep classes. If it weren’t for College Bound, I would not have known about applying for FASFA. I learned about all the available colleges, what they offered and even had the chance to tour different colleges, which helped me choose the best college for me.

College Bound made me feel knowledgeable and secure about college. I was myself and could share my real feelings about college, time management and getting organized.

I graduated in May and plan to attend Fort Valley State University. I actually have career goals to own a computer business or maybe work for the Federal Government, and I want to major in Computer Science and Marketing.

Thanks to College Bound, I am determined to graduate from college. I feel a sense of accomplishment, and I know I will make something of myself. When I picture my college graduation, I think to myself “I’m not a statistic, and I am going to be somebody!”
