Albert's Story

Albert was a member of the Warren/Holyfield Club for 10 years. When he joined, Albert’s parents knew the Boy’s Club would be a safe haven for their son. What they didn’t know was the astounding impact Albert’s Club would have on the rest of his life.

Albert had several “firsts” at his Club, including his first job, his first five-course meal, his first organized football game, his first scholarship for school, and his first opportunity to travel the world. He met life-long friends; he learned he could be better than his environment; he discovered he could achieve more than he thought possible. Albert eventually worked for BGCMA and stayed for 10 years as a professional staff member.

“My Club was like another home,” he says. “It was a family. It was a place of belonging. And we all - kids and staff – understood and respected each other.”

Today, Albert is the pastor of Neriah Church in Union City. Every year, his church raises money and gives back to his childhood Club, keeping the promise he made to his Club years ago.  Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta kept its promise to Albert. The Club helped him, and thousands of others, become productive and positive adults.

“Boys & Girls Clubs is an investment in humanity,” says Albert. “When you invest in humanity, you can only expect a promising return. If the Boys & Girls Club movement impacts every child the way it impacted me…well, then it’s a place that is invaluable and priceless.”
