Healthcare Technology Firm Executives Elected to Board of DirectorsMay 5, 2010

The non-profit Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, Carroll County, is today announcing the receipt of a significant set of financial and programmatic resources from the Carrollton-based healthcare information technology firm Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc.
Greenway is pledging financial resources for the addition of a teen center at the Club’s facility currently located at 601 Maple Street, and is pledging staff assistance for the Club’s daily Power Hour homework and mentoring program. Additionally, Greenway’s Vice President of Business Development Greg Shilling, and Director of Quality Assurance Kent Matthews, have been elected to the Carroll County Club’s board of directors.
“We are very gratified that Greenway has recognized the worthy goals of helping young people in need in Carroll County, and we are equally pleased to be trusted with this multi-faceted and long-term commitment, which we feel is a testament to our program’s success in a relatively short time, and our plans to expand enrollment,” said Carroll County Clubs Board Chair Sandra Morris.
Greenway kicked off its pledge on May 2 with the Carroll County Club Braves night at Turner Field wherein $1,570 was raised through ticket sales, and additional tickets were donated to Club members and their parents. On May 5, Greenway hosted a welcoming lunch at its corporate headquarters to take company donations of school and arts and crafts supplies.
Established in January, 2009, the Carroll County facility currently aids 192 young people ages six to 18 through a five-hour program during the school year, and a 10-hour daily program in the summer months. As part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, the Carroll County facility offers developmental programs to empower disadvantaged youth toward productive futures through a safe and learning environment fostering academic success, healthy living and good character and citizenship.
Area youth utilize computer labs, arts and crafts rooms and age-appropriate classes to pursue development in character building, life and job skills, money matters, physical fitness, Internet safety and one-on-one learning tutorials among many programs.
Based on studies by the Metro Atlanta organization, members finish high school at a 20 percent higher rate than peers who cannot take advantage of the program, and show an average 12 percent improvement in grade levels. Also incidents of teen pregnancy and substance abuse drop by as much as 50 percent after young people enter the Clubs programs.
“The Boys & Girls Clubs approach has such an established track record of success that we at Greenway are excited to be a part of our community’s future,” said Greenway President and CEO Tee Green. “It’s not that Greenway Medical Technologies is ready to help, it’s that together every member of our staff and our community can work together, and we join our corporate colleagues in town who are involved and ask that others do so as well.” Greenway is also forming future goals of the establishment of company scholarship and internship programs.
Along with Greenway, the Boys & Girls Club’s board is represented locally by the University of West Georgia, Southwire, Walmart.com, Alfa Insurance, Impact Mortgage, area school systems, law enforcement and government bodies and individual volunteers.
