Lowes Everyday Heroes to the Rescue

130 employees spruced up three Clubs

October 22, 2009

More than 130 Lowe’s employees worked Wednesday, October 21 and Thursday, October 22 to benefit children and teens of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.

They volunteered their time and skills to help restore three local Boys & Girls Clubs - East DeKalb Boys & Girls Club, Warren/Holyfield Boys & Girls Club and W.W. Woolfolk Boys & Girls Club.

They assisted in multiple projects, which included painting, laying tile, adding molding to classrooms and bathrooms, and installing new sinks, washers and dryers. Partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta as part of the Lowe’s Heroes program, the projects ultimately provided a cleaner, safer environment for children.

Lowe’s Heroes is a company-wide volunteer initiative that offers Lowe’s employees the opportunity to work on a project in their own neighborhood, helping to make their communities better places to live, work and play.

The largest transformation took place at the East DeKalb Club, which needed some major updates and repairs. From transforming one building inside and out to installing a new membership check-in window at the Club, Lowes gave the Club a makeover that was long overdue.

"This project meant so much to me and the Club kids," said Pamela Nealey, Executive Director at the East DeKalb Club. "We have one of the smallest and oldest Clubs, and for Lowes to make the repairs, spend the time and volunteer hard labor - well, it just makes a big difference. Our Club is now more updated, safer and all around a livelier place to come every day. We are sincerely grateful to Lowes and everyone who helped at all three of our Clubs this week."
