PricewaterhouseCoopers and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta Team Up to Inspire Next Generation of Leaders

July 17, 2009

Over 300 partners and staff from the Atlanta office of PricewaterhouseCoopers ("PwC") are volunteering more than 2,400 hours today to support local children.  Working in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta for the second year in a row, partners and staff are volunteering their time and expertise to conduct life skills and college preparatory training, teach lessons in sportsmanship, and engage in minor renovation projects at four Boys & Girls Clubs around metro Atlanta.

According to Ashley Scott, PwC Tax Partner and member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta Board of Directors, "Through our work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta we are able to focus our community service efforts on the development of future leaders.  Creating value and lending our personal expertise where it counts we hope to create lasting positive change and help our children build a sustainable future."

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta provide developmental programs that empower metro Atlanta youth — especially those from disadvantaged circumstances — to become productive adults, touching nearly 17,000 youth in the last year.

”We are excited to have PwC partner with BGCMA again this year for their Annual Day of Service,” said William Lampley, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta. “PwC truly believes in helping the children in their communities and inspiring the next generation of leaders. By volunteering, PwC exemplifies a major component of their business methodology, connection to client interests. The time they spend with our local Clubs and our youth sets a true example of being connected to their community and demonstrates to our children how a helping hand can make a huge difference. We thank them for their support and inspiration.”

Also contributing to the effort is Marriott and Renaissance Hotels of Atlanta, who are providing low-cost boxed lunches to PwC for all staff and children involved with the Day of Service.  Participating hotels include Evergreen Conference Resort, Renaissance Downtown, Marriott Marquis, Marriott Midtown, and JW Marriott Buckhead.

The local event is part of a fourth-annual national PwC program called Summer of Community Service, which celebrates the impact that one person can have on a child and acknowledges that 30,000 people working together as a team can motivate, educate and develop the next generation of leaders.  All PwC offices throughout the U.S. participate in the program in some way.  The effort involves 75 offices, 30,000 partners and staff, and millions of dollars in donated firm time.  During the past two years of the community program, PwC contributed more than 100,000 volunteer hours to nearly 400 community service projects nationwide, worth an estimated $10-15 million in donated firm time.

PwC’s Atlanta office is located at 10 Tenth Street, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30309
