Club Blue forms "Women of Distinction"

Become a Mentor to Young Girls at BGCMA

March 2, 2009

On Thursday, March 26 Club Blue will kick-off the first night of its new monthly Women’s Mentoring program - Women of Distinction!

We need the women of Club Blue to serve as mentors for this exciting new program.

What is a woman of distinction? She is a woman who inspires through her imagination, innovation and dedication; through her strength of character and the sincerity with which she serves the community. A woman of distinction possesses a passion for the people and places making up her everyday life, and breathes life and energy into our community.

The goal of the Women of Distinction initiative is to pair young professional women in Club Blue with the young girls (middle and high school) at the Boys & Girls Clubs. Once a month for five months a small group of five-10 young professional women will host a dinner with 20-25 young girls from four Clubs.  March is National Women's History Month and the launch of the program. At the first March 26 program, Club Blue members will speak to the girls about the significance of womens' accomplishments and talk about confidence and overcoming limitations.

At future mentoring sessions, mentors will talk with the girls about topics such as personal finance, college, self-esteem and the media, healthy relationships and other issues these young women face in their daily lives.

To become a Woman of Distinction, you would need to be able to commit to the following mentoring dates: March 26, April 30 and May 28.  Consistency is key to ensuring a successful experience for the mentors and the young women.
