Kids Face Challenges Every Day

When it comes to healthy habits, many kids in Georgia are struggling. Often, they do not have access to healthy food and safe spaces to get active. Georgia ranks 3rd in the nation for the prevalence of overweight children. Our state also faces high rates of teen pregnancy, violence, and physical inactivity.

Healthy Lifestyles: Programs with Impact

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, our programs teach kids and teens how to eat a balanced diet, become more physically fit, and engage in healthy relationships. We are helping kids build healthy habits now that will last a lifetime. Check out our programs!

Triple Play

TriplePlayTriple Play is a comprehensive health and wellness program and includes three components: Mind, Body and Soul. The Mind component encourages young people to eat smart through the Healthy Habits program, which covers the power of choice, calories, vitamins and minerals, the food pyramid, and appropriate portion size. The Body component boosts Clubs’ traditional physical activities to a higher level by providing sports and fitness activities for all youth. The Soul component helps build positive relationships and cooperation among young people. All of our Clubs use this philosophy to drive our programs.

Soccer for Success

soccerforsuccess

Soccer for Success is an after-school program developed and supported by the U.S. Soccer Foundation. The program is designed to introduce youth ages 6-14 to the sport of soccer, while also providing them and their families with the tools they need to make healthy lifestyle decisions. The curriculum is designed to keep children engaged in fun activities three days a week. The program begins with a mastery of basic soccer skills and then helps participants hone and improve their skill set.

Making Proud Choices!

MakingProudChoices

Making Proud Choices! A Safer Sex Approach to STDs, Teen Pregnancy, and HIV prevention curriculum is an eight module curriculum that provides young adolescents with the knowledge, confidence, and skills necessary to reduce their risk of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV and pregnancy by abstaining from sex or using condoms if they choose to have sex. It is based on cognitive-behavioral theories, focus groups, and extensive experience working with youth.

Positive Sprouts

The Positive Sprouts program focuses on combating the growing obesity crisis among America’s youth by: 1) educating Club members on the importance of consuming fresh fruit and vegetables; and 2) providing members and their families with access to fresh fruits and vegetables. The Positive Sprouts curriculum includes activities with a focus on nutrition education and science exploration in the garden; instructions on how to plan, build, plant, maintain, and sustain your garden; simple home garden suggestions; and easy-to-make recipes that incorporate fruits and vegetables grown in the garden.
