Sascha Gives 12 Kids a Better Future

A junior at Savannah College of Art and Design, Sascha Sims knows of Boys & Girls Club only by reputation but she believes in the Club’s mission and has a profound sense of the need to give back.

Her monthly gift of $35 provides the annual membership fee for a child whose family can’t afford to pay. Each year, 12 disadvantaged children are given the opportunity for a better future because of Sascha.

As Sascha puts it, “It’s been a year, and I still continue to give because it’s a commitment I have made. I understand that my donation is helping someone, and its absence would affect the funding for something or someone important.”

She feels art, music and social issues are important to childhood education. She wants children to have opportunities to discuss and study community issues, as well as find ways to address and solve them. Boys & Girls Clubs’ arts and cultural education programs such as International Paint Pals, Digital Arts and Kiwanis Cultural Challenge, leadership groups like I Can and Keystone Club and peer issue groups including Girl Power Summit and Passport to Manhood are focused on just that.

Sascha explains, “Every child should have the opportunity to realize their potential and recognize their importance. We see things happening in the world and in our communities and sometimes don’t know what to do to help. I think confidence and knowing you have the choice and power to change something is necessary.”

This college student is a living example of her own advice. She promotes getting involved in an issue you care about and making a difference one person at a time.
