Purpose Built Boys & Girls Club – T.H. Slater Elementary School

I Chose BGCMA because I’ve seen firsthand how the programs, people, and relationships have changed the lives of many. In addition, I’ve always wanted to be a part of a movement that gives back to the community. What better way to give back than by pouring and developing the youth in those communities? The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta have allowed me to give back to my community and serve the youth and families in these communities.

I’ve had several people who influenced me to be who I am today. My seventh-grade science teacher made me feel seen and heard by creating a space where I felt safe to share. My basketball coach provided encouraging words that taught me never to give up and use my mistakes as learning opportunities. But, the most significant influence is my beautiful mother. Watching my mother take care of my baby sister and me taught me perseverance, loyalty, and courage.

Every day matters; what you do today will affect tomorrow. So, choose wisely, and look at your options before deciding. Never give up on your dreams and goals. There will be hardships and obstacles to slow you down, but don’t give in; remember, these obstacles and difficulties teach you what you need to know to become who you are destined to be.

The clubs in our communities are necessary for developing the youth living there. They provide a place for kids and teens to feel safe, be included, and engage in impactful programs and activities. In addition, our clubs are places of fun where our members can make positive relationships while developing and discovering new skills and talents.

The Purpose-Built Clubs are unique because we are partnered with our school sites and provide our service on Slater Elementary and Price Middle School’s campuses. Onsite school sites allow us to focus on the needs of the schools, students, and community without worrying about transportation. In addition, our members are in a well-known environment that allows them to feel safe and secure.
