Center for a New Generation at Connally Elementary

On July 7, the Center for a New Generation (CNG) drum line had yet another great performance for parents, staff and family. The drum line is just one of the many enrichment and arts activities that students can participate in each day after school and during the summer. Each semester the drum line students have a wonderful time learning the discipline and skill that goes along with nurturing their interest in playing musical instruments. Since the inception of CNG at BGCMA last year, Mr. Howard has been directing the drum line.

Brief History

BGCMA launched The Center for a New Generation (CNG), a new educational program, at Connally Elementary School in February 2010. The program is one piece of an overall education strategy. CNG was originally started by Condoleezza Rice in California for elementary students with average performance but had the potential to succeed with the right support. With a high rate of success, the program began partnering with local Boys & Girls Clubs.

BGCMA’s CNG program takes place every day after school and currently serves K- 5th grade students at Connally, some of whom are also members of the W.W. Woolfolk Club.

The purpose of CNG is to provide our students with an enriched academic experience using hands-on, minds-on projects in math, science, language and the arts that nurture the joy of learning. The priority goals of CNG students are enjoyment of learning, appreciation of education, self expression through visual and performing arts and high performance during elementary, middle and high school.
